Clean and Clear and Mmmmm so Good

Thursday, May 31st, 2012

We are commonly asked where The Cottage at Cultus Lake gets its drinking water from?  Because its an interesting topic that fascinates most we’d like to share the answer with everybody.

Our drinking water comes from an extensive aquifer below the central part of the Columbia Valley, which extends from Cultus Lake to beyond the Canada/U.S. border, stretching 8.7 km2.  It is at least 50 m in thickness and about 1000 m in width and is approximately 110 feet below the earth’s surface.

Known as The Columbia Valley Aquifer, it has been studied by a number agencies, more recently by the Ministry of Environment which has characterized the aquifer as a large, deep, fast moving body of water with good drainage in the Columbia Valley region holding an estimated 130.5 billion litres of groundwater! It is primarily recharged from rainfall and snow melt as well as water from springs, creeks and streams which add approximately 26 billion litres of water into the aquifer each year.

What is most fascinating is the amount of groundwater withdrawal, which is estimated at only 0.15 billion litres/year.  In summary, the aquifer is used very little by residents; only 0.6% of the actual water is used

A unique water distribution system has been designed specifically for The Cottage community.  Groundwater from the aquifer is collected in a holding reservoir and gravity fed to the community when needed.   The water is not chlorinated, and therefore, we enjoy clean and clear drinking water that tastes amazing!  Come out and see for yourself – have a glass on us.

Your Family Cottage: A Family Legacy

Friday, April 20th, 2012

Building a family legacy for future generations.

Sales at The Cottages at Cultus Lake have been very strong over the last three years and show no signs of slowing down. For those who view home buying and real estate as a pure investment vehicle, this set of circumstances can seem a bit perplexing, but knowing our prospective owners like we do, we aren’t a bit surprised. You see, they aren’t looking to buy office space, residential rental space, or a commercial property. The Cottage at Cultus Lake buyers are interested in acquiring a space for their families to grow and spend time together. They are looking for a place that allows them to focus on each other rather than the demands of the daily grind. Most of all, they are looking for a sanctuary, a safe and comforting place in which to welcome family and friends, creating a legacy of security for future generations.

It all sounds a bit Norman Rockwell when put to print, but the funny thing is that nostalgia for a “simpler, better” time is exactly what drives many to join The Cottages at Cultus Lake community. If you think about it, there are few opportunities in our fast paced, bigger-better-faster world to access that kind of security and peace. We can get away from it all with a brief vacation or try relaxation activities like yoga or meditation to ward off the stress for an hour or so, but it’s rare to have a place of one’s own that is designated as a safe haven for you, your friends, and your family. Oh sure, your primary residence shelters you and provides safety and privacy but try as you might, you can never escape the demands, noise, and stress of city life that surround you. The Cottages at Cultus Lake owners count themselves as fortunate to have such a safe haven close enough to the city (and sometimes their primary home) for an easy and fast escape but far enough removed from the crowds to truly experience that sense of peace.

We are happy to welcome a wonderful new group of owners who value tranquility, family bonding, and the idea of building a legacy to be passed down to future generations – all things that endure far beyond real estate and economic markets.

Cottage Community Spirit

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

Up here at The Cottages at Cultus Lake, the narrow country lanes are busy with games of street hockey, little ones learning how to ride a bicycle, and families out for a stroll. Front porches are filled with friends and neighbours gathering at the end of a fun-filled day for a well deserved chilled Chardonnay, and the air is alive with sounds of children’s laughter, the delicious smell of barbeque, and a proud sense of community spirit!

Proud cottage owners are well on their way to building a strong knit community.  This summer alone they have organzied a Summer Kick-Off BBQ, an evening s’more roast for the Grande Opening of Tall Timbers Park (a 2 acre forest within the development), and the first ever “The Cottages” Golf Tournament where cottage owners teamed up for a game of Texas Scramble with plenty of prizes to be won, just to name a few.

What’s more, the strata council publishes a monthly newsletter informing owners of the latest developments as well as upcoming community events, not to mention the chatter amongst the strata corporation of ordering merchandise bearing The Cottages well recognized logo; a true reflection of pride!

Lastly, this private neighbourhood watches out for each other and ensures that the fully gated community is a safe and well maintained place for all cottage owners, their friends and family to enjoy; this spirited community lives by the saying “the front door of your cottage starts at the gate!”

Regatta anyone?

There’s no hardship in lazing away the days at your own cottage or enjoying the pool and other amenities at The Cottages at Cultus Lake Treehouse, but every once in awhile you might decide to venture out into the larger community. Luckily, Cultus Lake, Chilliwack, and the Fraser Valley offer endless recreational activities to satisfy the most eclectic of tastes.
